PUBLIC HEARING FOR RV PARKING ORDINANCE SLATED FOR JULY 28

The Dimondale Village Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing July 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Council Chambers to obtain comments on Ordinance 2008-5, an ordinance to amend Chapters 420, Parking; 1287, Home Occupations; and 1288, Off- Street Parking and Loading, of the Codified Ordinances of Dimondale to provide for the regulation of trailers.  After several months of review, the Planning Commission will solicit feedback on proposed amendments regarding parking regulations for non-commercial, recreational trailers.  The following excerpt reflects the recommended language:  “No person shall park a semi-trailer, trailer or pole trailer upon any street without having attached thereto a means of mechanical traction so constructed or designed for the purpose of drawing such trailer except that non-commercial, recreational trailers may be temporarily parked (not exceeding three (3) days) for loading or unloading and other temporary purposes.”

We value your input and encourage all interested residents to attend the public hearing regarding this important change.  If you have questions or would like a complete copy of the text, please feel free to call the Village Office at 646.0230, Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Tax Time

Just a quick reminder to all residents that summer tax bills were mailed July 2 and are due by 5:00 p.m. September 15.  Please note, Village residents pay two summer taxes, one to the Village of Dimondale and another to Windsor Township for the State Education Tax Fund.  Call 646.0230 with any questions.

CORRECTIONS
✰The street sweeper will be in town on the FIRST Thursday of the month.

✰Because Community Pride Day was such a success, volunteers were
able to remove all the brush piles from the island and a controlled burn
will no longer be necessary.  A big thanks to all the folks who helped out!

BOARD VACANCY
Recent resignations have resulted in a vacancy on the Village Planning Commission.  We are actively seeking a replacement and hope to make an appointment within the next couple of months.  This position offers an opportunity to take an active role in the governance of our Village with a limited time commitment.  Interested individuals should complete the Citizen Involvement Application at the back of this newsletter and return it to the Village Office as soon as possible.  Feel free to call for more information.

2008 ELECTION - CALL FOR CANDIDATES
Village residents will elect a President and three Trustees on November 4, 2008.  A qualifying candidate must be a registered voter in the Village.  Other helpful characteristics include the ability to interact and make decisions in a group setting and a willingness to serve the public.  The President’s term is two years and Trustees serve for four years.  The average time commitment is six to seven hours per month, generally two or three evenings.  Trustees are compensated bi-annually at a rate of $50 per Council meeting and $35 per committee meeting attended.  The President earns $100 per Council meeting and $70 for committee meetings.  Petitions for these offices are available at the Windsor Township Office, 405 E. Jefferson St., and the deadline to file is 4:00 p.m. on August 12.  More information regarding the election process is available from Linda Towsley, Windsor Township Clerk, at 646.0772.  Questions related to the positions should be directed to the Village Office at 646.0230.

GEAR UP FOR SUMMER BRUSH PICK-UP
On Monday, July 28 the Department of Public Works will collect brush.  We respectfully request that property owners wait until one week before the collection to begin accumulating debris in front yards.

If you have questions regarding this service or what constitutes “acceptable” material, please call the DPW at 646.0186 before collection begins to avoid negative consequences.  As always, we appreciate your cooperation and are pleased to provide this service to Village residents.
